HPJ and Hui Aloha ʻĀina o Honolulu brought youth organizers from Waianae, Makaha, Kaneohe, Kailua and Honolulu to Mākua Valley to learn the about the cultural and political history of Mākua Valley, during a cultural access tour led by Mālama Mākua. The organization that stopped the US Army from engaging in live fire training in the Valley since the late 1990s.  The youth, some of whom are direct descendants of Kanaka Maoli families who were displaced by the  repeatedly raise the point that they wish to see Mākua returned and to not see the Army leases renewed in 2029.  We hope this will be the first of many trips to the valley to support the continuing revitalization and restoration of Mākua, by developing the next generation of community organizers who will Mālama Mākua.
